Our trip to Germany last summer started at St. Pancras in London on Eurostar to Brussels where we changed in a eight minute dash over platforms to board the DB rail to Cologne for our first nights stay.
The purpose for our trip was to visit our daughter-in-law’s parents in Kiel and watch the start of the Kiel Week festival. We could have flown but travelled by train to see more of Germany, a country we hardly knew.
In Hamburg we enjoyed the city bus tour and dined by the canal at lunchtime, enjoying dinner and bar snacks at our hotel where we cheered alongside German fans watching the World Cup.
The Kiel festival was astonishing for the number of ships and boats taking part. In the evening we toured the food stalls between countless music stages in various squares of Kiel.
